“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21 ESV).
Last week, I related one of the incidents that happened during our move which exhibited God’s care and foresight overruling my plans. The second thing that happened began on the Saturday before we moved. We pulled out of the garage and drove up our driveway before noticing one of Ryan’s tires was a pancake. Discouraged, we used my car instead and waited until Monday to call our mechanic. They could check it out, but they were backed up with work. Fussing about the untimeliness of all this, we dropped the car off and completed all of our moving activities with just my car.
On Wednesday, the mechanic let us know the car had been repaired (nail in the tire) and was ready for pickup, of course we were two hours away since we had moved on Tuesday. We drove back on Thursday, picked up the car, then headed to our house to load up all the final stuff going into storage at my parents’ house. Amazingly we STILL had way too much stuff to fit in my car and our utility trailer! So we actually needed Ryan’s car to finish the move. If his car hadn’t gotten a flat, we wouldn’t have had it with us and therefore would have had to drive back and forth two times to my parents’ house which was a hour away.
As it turned out, on Friday, I also needed to leave my parents’ house before Ryan in order to make it to work on time. So by having two vehicles Ryan was able to stay a bit longer to finish up his work. A tire going flat is almost always an inconvenience, and we thought the whole incident was just another problem gumming up the works. However, it turned out to be a great blessing in helping us with our moving logistics. God is good, even when we think He isn’t helping us in the way we think He should.
“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you’” (Genesis 12:1 ESV). This move has been very stressful for a variety of reasons but especially because we moved to a more urban area. I had thought surely considering what is happening in our world God would want us to live in the country. The ironic thing is that the area we moved to is the most urban and country area I’ve ever seen. It has moderate traffic, more than what I’m used to, but about a mile from our large apartment complex is a “watch for tractors” sign! We don’t know yet why God has led us to this place. I pray that I can be like Abraham and trust in God to take care of us, because I know He will.
